Aged 13, Jonathan gained a scholarship to Chetham's School of Music where he continued his academic education alongside his musical studies, at 17 year old he became a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music with distinction in saxophone music performance.

Whilst at Chethams he attended the Laubach International Masterclass for classical saxophone where he was awarded a special study bursary as the most promising student. This award was used to fund studies with prominent European professors. These studies provided the inspiration for Jonathan’s move to France to study classical saxophone with Professor Vincent David at the Conservatoire de Versailles. Where he gained a DEM and Perfectionnement degree unanimously.

In 2013 he successfully entered the prestigious class of saxophone at Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) to study with professor Claude Delangle.

He has been supported by: The Musicians' Benevolent Fund, EMI Sound Foundation, Awards for Young Musicians, Graucob Music and has also been in receipt of an Education Bursary from BBC Performing Arts Fund. He has performed successfully at various competitions and recitals throughout Europe and has performed concertos with orchestras including the Chester Philharmonic, Liverpool Mozart Orchestra and the Slovenian Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra. More recently Jonathan was invited to perform several solo recitals at the 2012 World Saxophone Congress in St Andrews, UK where he received excellent reviews.
